The federal 30C credit covers a share of installation cost up to $1,000 on a home charger — but since 2023 it only applies to properties in an eligible census tract. The variable is almost always your electrical panel, not the charger. If you’re on 100-amp service already running a dryer, range and central air, expect a load calculation before a firm price. Ask about load management devices too — they often let a charger share an existing panel for far less than a service upgrade.
